Summary: Wondering why I bothered.
Comment: I wasn't expecting much from this installment, after the debacle that was Lover Unbound, and a review of Lover Enshrined which said that JR Ward was plainly trying to move away from underworld romance into urban fantasy. JR Ward was a great romance writer but is way out of her league in the urban fantasy genre. The BDB world is just not epic enough, the premise too tired and the characters smack of the ridiculous when taken out of the romance setting. It's a good thing I wasn't trying to read the book in braille because I wasn't feeling it at all. I might read the next book out of nostalgia but I doubt it. For new readers of the series, stop at Lover Awakened.

Summary: I'm still sitting on the fence
Comment: I must admit that I wasn't looking forward to Phury's story because I hadn't really warmed to him in J R Wards other books (which I love). Having said that after reading it I suppose I did like Phury more. The book also introduces some new characters if you don't access J R Wards forum site and also gives the readers a few shocks. All in all I cried at the end and I can't wait for Rehvenges story next years, bring it on!

Summary: "Black Dagger Brotherhood" book 6
Comment: Having accepted the role of Primale in this book's immediate predecessor, Phury has a sworn duty to propagate the vampire species by impregnating the forty members of the Chosen; beautiful women who serve the Scribe Virgin on the Other Side. Yes he feels a roar of "Mine" when meeting the bound and gagged utterly terrified Cormia, his selected First Mate splayed on a bed for his use; yet he believes this is because she is a Chosen and initially fails to realise she is actually his bonded mate.

Cormia has been in the mortal realm for five months and as yet to become intimate with Phury. Despite her initial reluctance to mate with a member of the Brotherhood she soon falls totally in love with a man she believes is already in love with someone else; his twin's wife. Cormia also finds herself battling against her own burgeoning individuality and a possession nature as she discovers she has absolutely no desire to share Phury with the other Chosen.

"Lover Enshrined" delves deeply into the troubled psyche of Phury as he struggles with his drug abuse and the key people in his life; namely Cormia, Zsadist and Bella, yet the story line remains as exciting and action packed as ever with fights galore; both against the Lessers and in-house as the Brotherhood faces its own problems. Huge changes are underway; not only in the vampire world as the death rate in the already diminishing population radically increases, but also in the Other Side after Phury confronts the Scribe Virgin and in the Lesser society as a new leader establishes his dominance with the complete approval of the Omega. Unfortunately all this chaos completely sidelines the growing relationship between Phury and Cormia; the romance between this pair certainly takes a back seat, hence the lost star when rating this book.

Now whose story will be next....... perhaps John's (my first choice) or Quinn or Blay; as these young bloods officially join the war against the Lessers and make their first sanctioned kills. I also look forward to learning more of a Fallen Angel who returns a member of the Brotherhood home (no guesses who this could be) and Payne's introduction into the vampire world.

Summary: Poor phury
Comment: Oh my, why was such a vibrant, dominant and interesting character's story sidelined???

This is not a bad book - it promotes the next book(s) in the series really well... but I felt that Phury and his love interest was not the main thrust of the book, and therefore, I was much more into John, Qhuinn and Blay. For me it is what happened to them that lingers in the mind from this book - A hug John has was something I had hoped to read about since ... well... ages ago!!

i gave this 4 stars not because it was ordinary, it's a great read, I gave this four because, in the end ... I didn't care about Phury's story!!!! And this was his book!

Comment: OK if you are new to JR Ward and you are reading the reviews for this book, stop, search for Dark Lover by JR Ward and start reading the series from the beginning. If you start with this one, because it's not the best in the series it might put you off and you'd miss a really good series.

Now if you've read all the others and are about to get this one, it's very much worth a read for the devoted JR Ward fan. The secondary characters really make this book. Qhuinn, Blay and John Matthew are really coming along (and boy I hope JR Ward writes Blay's story), Xhex (dispite the rediculous name) is growing into a very interesting distraction for John Matthew, Revhenge is getting to be much less two dimensional, and Tohr better get some plot in the next book or that's just plain teasing!!

Everyone has their least favourite borther and Phury is mine. I'm glad his story is done with now because I really was getting fed up of listening to him whine in the previous books. At least now his main story is over with I'm hoping we can get on to some more interesting brothers. Don't get me wrong though, good things come out of Phury's contribution to BDB series. His role as primale marks a change in the BDB novels, where traditions are altered and a more symbiotic relationship with the Scribe Virgin can be acheived. I did enjoy this book and am still very much enamoured with the world that JR Ward has created.

We'll see what the next one in the series holds...
