Summary: Great Andy Garcia performance
Comment: Alice Green (Meg Ryan) and her husband, Michael (Andy Garcia) are a happily married young couple, until Alice's secret drinking problem is exposed. Alice goes to rehab and when she comes home, she and Michael don't know how to act with one another without the help of alcohol.

This is a really good romantic drama dealing with the terrible ways alcoholism affects a couple and their young children. Oh, my goodness - that Andy Garcia can act and he's quite the dreamboat, too. He's so utterly convincing as the tortured husband that it makes me wonder why I haven't seen him in more leading roles. Meg Ryan, on the other hand, never convinced me she was suffering with guilt or shame or anything; her sunny smile and angelic face were always the same...perky, perky, PERKY! Two precocious little girls complete the cast as the couple's daughters who have to deal with their mother's drinking.

It's interesting that most of the conflict in the story is after Alice comes home from rehab. It's only then that they both realize what a big part drinking had in their lives and that they have to start all over in their relationship. Although the happy ending is never in doubt, this is an emotionally draining film that is very well done.

Summary: Brilliant!
Comment: Want a movie that will have to balling your eyes out? Well, this is it.

I have always loved Meg Ryan in her movies, and although in most of them she comes across as pretty much the same, this one was different. She played a more serious role, more down to earth.

This is a movie about a woman who is a secret alcoholic, things become bad when she passes out in front of her daughter. It rips the family apart, comes between her and her husband, and her children. But will they survive this, will all be OK? Well, you'll have to watch it.

I liked how Meg Ryan played this part, sometimes when you see people in movies, it's like they play the same sort of role each time, especially with those who star in Comedies. But it isn't the case with this one. (It's the same with Jim Carey, in most of his movies, he acts in comedies, and comes across as the same character each time, which can become boring. But in 'The Majestic' he played a serious role, and I loved him in this movie.)

I have to say though, for anyone who does like their drink (like me), this movie is a bit of a wake up call. It makes you realize to make sure you have your drink in moderation, and not to take it for granted, as no one sets out to be an alcoholic, it just happens.

This is a heartfelt touching movie, and make sure you have your tissues with you!!!

Summary: Hooked on Love
Comment: When a man loves a women - he doesnt realise just how much he LOVES her until after she is gone.
That is the message in this brilliant movie - and is a message I can identify with.
Meg Ryan is so hot that she could make an ice man melt in seconds - she reminds me of my ex-wife...though to be honest my ex was much better looking.
This is a good film to watch if your considering a divorce - because it will make you realise that you have too much to lose.
The best tearjerker since Love Story...

Summary: Somehow so evocative
Comment:
To me, a good film that makes me feel like returning to watch it over and over has to have some kind of je-ne-sais-quoi.

I guess that je-ne-sais-quoi is what makes a film very personal to you even though you have never gone through the situation / experience the character is going through. A film that have a great story, acting, costumes, music etc overwhelms me and I feel deeply satisfied after turning my DVD player off. But I seldom watch the same one again in the next 12 months if the film does not have that je-ne-sais-quoi.

This film has that quiality. I love the scene Amy is having lunch with her big Chinese family (mind you, I am Japanese, not Chinese), I love the scene Jess runs thorugh the garden to her mother in hospital, I love the scene Michael gets into an argument with Amy and love the way she walks away, and above all, I love the last scene. All are somehow so evocative to me (well, I don't deny I have alcohol problem, but not that I have experience any of them - yet!).

A friend of mine said the story goes round and round and is boring in that Alice regrets what she did and tries to be good only to make the same mistake again. But I beg to disagree. I would like to call it realistic. This story is partly based on the true story of the co-writer. In reality, people don't change over night. People go circle - only going slightly up or down in each round.

Comment: Alice..An alcoholic....Michael...A pilot...A movie that makes you feel that you want to be her(oh yes...an alcoholic)just to have this man...I am a huge fan of Andy Garcia but beyond that, this is really a brilliant movie, dealing with a very sensitive subject...Great acting from everyone, the older daughter is just a dream...A movie that will leave you with so many emotions...for a long time...Not to be missed...
