Summary: Beginners Beware
Comment: I'm new to programming and new to VB and whilst I was very enthusiastic about the product for the first two chapters, where it leads you by the hand and nose to produce some sample code, it does not go on from there. And no I'm not a dummy with computers and software per se, but I need more help than is offered here. After the first couple of chapters it started talking way above my head and if you're new to programming and VB you'll be as lost as I was. I've now ordered two other books to complement this tool, both recommended by beginners and by the author himself. Microsoft Visual Basic Step By Step and the other by Mr Wright. VB Step By Step seems to be the answer as it's 24 chapters leading from zero to hero.

Summary: CBT not so hot
Comment: No complaints about the programming environment, 5 stars.However, the Learn MS VB6.0 Now CD is a different kettle of fish. Initially, the going is slow, very much like a Microsoft tutorial for novice users of Windows, and pitched at the same level. There is not sufficient emphasis on the code, syntax especially seems to be tucked away in hard to reach spots. Consequently, much time is spent searching the MSDN library (which is very good). There is not a single mention of arrays, and the labs are very basic, you will probably want to experiment a bit rather than confining yourself to them.
That said, it does what it claims - offers an introduction - it's up to you to go further than the first step. Hence 4 stars.

Summary: Visual Basic - The only way to show off to your colleagues
Comment: The best way of convincing your colleagues that your a wizard of programming is to use the simple and easy-to pick up programming language of Microsoft's Visual Basic. You can create complex user forms that with a little effort put into learning could easily be confused with real Microsoft programs! If you run your own small buisness, and wish to create your own software to make life more easy for yourself and your employees, then again this software is ideal for you. The best feature of this software is its ability to teach you how to use it to its full potential.

Summary: Get into Windows programming fast!!!
Comment: This is one of the best packages I have found for the beginner to programming. The package consists of 2 parts. An edition of visual basic 6 and a computer based training CD. The CBT is excellent and covers the basic comcepts to programming with visual basic. All along there are examples and lots of hints, but not only that I found the CBT to be interesting and fun! It wasn't long before I was programming and writing simple applications and the course points you onto other publications so you are not left wondering where to go from there on. I'm glad I saw this as it prepared me onto using the big one 'Visual Basic Professional' The main difference with the learning edition is that you cannot distribute the compiled code (hence the reason it is called the learning edition) but apart from that I found it an excellent way to get into this superb programming enviroment. Since buying this package I have found other visual basic books from Amazon to build on my creative visual programming.
