Spotlight customer reviews: Customer Rating: Summary: Camp Vamps Comment: Rollin made his name in 1960s Paris with arty erotic horror movies & followed up with this 1970 colour movie with relatively decent budget, cast & crew. It is filmed on location in a scenic castle where a group of ultra-camp hippie vampires appear & disappear through grandfather clocks by day & frolic in graveyards by night. The whole thing is slow & dreamy (plot? - what plot?) & has the requisite early 70s whacked out psychedelic ambience (lots of coloured filters!) & of course the female cast lose their clothes at frequent intervals. Sandra Julien makes an appealing heroine as the innocent who gets a taste for blood. Rollin made many more films using the same formula but with diminishing returns. Shiver of the Vampires is, with Jess Franco's Vampyros Lesbos, probably the best example of the, er, "psychedelic lesbian vampire" genre. Basic DVD - but reasonable print & thankfully subtitles not English dubbing.
