Summary: An Excellent Variety Of Today's Most Successful Hits!
Comment: The 49th Edition of the most successful compilation series ever "Now That's What I Call Music!" brings us the best of pop, rock, indie, R&B and dance music!
With a string of number ones and top ten singles, the double album captures the best of recent charts, and is a pure reflection of today's hottest tunes.
Disc One starts-off with great Top 5 ballads with Robbie Williams' "Eternity" (No.1), Gabrielle's "Out Of Reach" (No.4), Atomic Kitten's cover of The Bangles' "Eternal Flame" (No.1) and Blue's "All Rise".
Then the up-tempo hits start to catch you and put you to dance with pop numbers by S Club 7 with "Don't Stop Movin'" (No.1), the dance-influenced "It's Raining Men" by Geri Halliwell (No.1)and Ronan Keating's "Lovin' Each Day" (No.2).
After some good pop songs, the CD introduce some indie/rock offerings with the Stereophonics' "Have A Nice Day", Wheatus' "Teenage Dirtbag", Blink 182's "The Rock Show" (out of the UK Top Ten) and U2's "Elevation (Tomb Raider Mix)" (No.3) from the "Lara Croft: Tomb Raider" soundtrack.
The sound quickly moves to an R&B/hip-hop songs by Outkast (Ms. Jackson) charting at No.2 and the chart-topper "Survivor" by the Destiny's Child.
Closing an excellent Disc: One, is the return of ballads with popstars winners Hear'say with "The Way To Your Love" (No.1), the Backstreet Boys' least successful hit to date "More Than That" (No.12) since their debut offering "Get Down (You're The One For Me)" made No.14 in 1996, female teenage superstar Britney Spears with her lowest chart-number "Don't Let Me Be The Last To Know" (No.12), Marti Pellow's "Close To You", chillout/ballad superstar Dido with her first ever top 3 hit "Thank You", Zero 7's underrated master-piece "Destiny" and Radiohead's Top 5 welcome back "Pyramid Song".
Disc: Two kicks-off with the re-issue of the 70's superstar Eddy Grant's "Electric Avenue", followed by the year's most successful new act 'the Gorillaz' with "19-2000 (Soulchild Remix)". Next is the chart-topper/dancefloor friendly "Do You Really Like It?" by DJ Pied Piper & The Masters Of Ceremonies, Mis-teeq's R&B offering "All I Want"; Roger Sanchez dance master-piece "Another Chance" (No.1) and a sort of dance anthems by Basement Jaxx, Da Hool, Ian Van Dahl's No.3 debut "Castles In The Sky" and Fragma.
Steps make the pop's return on the album, followed by the A*Teens' first and only Top Ten hit "Upside Down" and Bellefire's "Perfect Bliss".
Texas returns once again with a new remix of the 1989's hit "I Don't Want A Lover" and bringing the dance back is Boris Dlugosch featuring Roisin with "Never Enough".
Then the CD is filled with R&B/pop songs by Janet Jackson. Sisqo, Melanie B and Eve.

This CD is a must buy for any 2001 fan! But if you want the hugest hits of the year, you must try "Now That's What I Call Music! 50", this one offers chart-topping hits by Kylie Minogue, Westlife, DJ Otzi, Bob The Builder, Five, Blue, So Solid Crew and Afroman, plus Top Five Singles from Steps, Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Nelly Furtado, Emma Bunton, Jennifer Lopez, Alien Ant Farm, Wheatus, Travis, Britney Spears, Iio, Supermen Lovers featuring Mani Hoffman, Destiny's Child, Eve featuring Gwen Stefani and many more!

Summary: The Now Goes On
Comment: The now is back. I usually rate this by the quality of songs in it, that's what am I going to do right now.

It kicks off with Robbie's classic "Eternity", a slow tune which sets the mood of the cd to a disastrous one. Then Gabrielle's and Atomic Kitten's are pretty ok tunes and the first really cool tune All Rise kicks off. So far so good.

S Club 7 as usual are inclded in here, for heaven's sake!! Ger's track is ok, and Ronan's is ok too. Excluding the U2 and Wheatus track, the rock tunes are rubbishbut that's because i'm not a fan of rock in general. The fourth decent hit is Destiny's Child "Survivor" followed by Outkast, these are the tunes which should be included in here. Dido is ok too. Then we come back to pop rubbish i.e. hear'say, britney and other fillers. These are acceptable but lower the cd level. Zero7 and Radiohead are the two most boring tracks in here.

CD2 kicks off with Eddy Grant, pretty ok, then with Gorillaz - a complete disaster! Someone should erase those Gorillaz from pop scene. Then Mis-teeq, Pied Pier, roger Sanchez are ok, and the next beautiful track is "Castles InThe Sky". Fragma is also an ok tune. The the pop disaster comes back. Steps, A*Teens... kick them off! Texas are ok and the mighty rappers come in - Nelly, Eve, Sisqo... these should fill a decent compilation. Then all ends up with three "Lullabies" cos they make u sleep.

In total, 21 are decent tunes - nearly half of them. So, the Now level is decreasing. Either include more rap and r&b and travis or do not release another now cd.

Summary: Nice variety of songs
Comment: I really enjoyed this album because I feel it contains a very good variety and u cannot fail to like at least half the songs on it. My favourites were destinys child, dido and atomic kitten. However, I absolutely cannot stand all the cheap untalented bands that r springing up out of nowhere, such as Hear' Say, S Club 7 and Steps, theyre all the same and have no individuality.

Summary: Nothing wrong with compilation albums, but.....
Comment: Once again, the next edition of this popular compilation is presented to us. I have no problem with that, if fact, I own all of them up to volume 45. But then it suddenly dawned on me that I was only buying them to naturally add to my collection; the actual contents on these disks are slowly deteriorating. Lets face it-the majority of modern music is really bad!!! Monotonous tunes, bad singing....what's happened to talent? Did it go out of fashion?! Albums like this highlight the state of the modern music industry right now. Some modern music I really enjoy, but that counts towards about 0.01% of it! I really dread to think what music will be produced in the next 10 years or so. No, I'll re-phrase that: I really dread what music will be released tomorrow, because surely it can't get much worse than what's on this album!!!

Summary: Now its time to get rid of the NOW'S
Comment: Although this is a good compilation it would be good to release it before or just after the songs are released to save buying the single then the compilation, i must admit i was surprised not to see Lady Marmalade, Perfect Gentleman and Bootyliciosus on this cd as they are recent top choons maybe they will appear on NOW 100!!!! It does have Eternal Flame on it wow how up to date that one song is, i think now is the time to stop buying then nows and buy the up to date cd's. I wouldn't reccommend it unless u have been away for 4 months.
