Customer Rating: Summary: Underrated gem of a thriller Comment: This one surprised me a lot. In a good sense. The script is refreshingly good and smart, direction energetic, actors really good too. Including the always gorgeous Carla Gugino. This one, like "A better way to die", belongs to the undeservedly underappreciated, forgotten thrillers which are actually better than other thrillers which appeared in cinemas and made a lot of money. Check it out, u will not regret it.
Customer Rating: Summary: An uncommonly entertaining movie Comment: I've rented this for Alan Rickman, and am glad I did because I've had one of the most pleasant viewing experiences in a while. Granted, in order to fully enjoy it, you have to suspend disbelief, but once you do, it's one swell ride! In practically every shot, it is clearly visible the actors had a hell of a good time making this film, and the chemistry between the four kidnappers, as well as Rickman and Thompson, is excellent! And Carla Gugino and Simon Baker (who's adopted a rather excellent southern accent for an Aussie) are totally smoking! It quirky, it's funny, it's unpretentious, it's got some snappy dialogue, an enjoyable cast, and it's definitely worth a look.
Customer Rating: Summary: Not an Alan Rickman film Comment: I am a big fan of Alan Rickman, but what a disappointment this was. I couldn't believe him with the American accent and I thought Emma Thompson was even worse, and I normally enjoy her films. The plot was good, but it's all been done before and better.
Customer Rating: Summary: Judas Kiss (1998) Comment: I would not call this movie a success but nor would i call it a failure. It is a crime movie and based in New Orleans. For some reason the kidnappers' hideout is an abandoned church where all the vestments, candles, and similar religious items have been left behind. Even when the kidnapping of a billionaire and the murder of a senator's wife would be considered a very high-profile case, only two law-enforcement officers (and a couple of men doing electronic surveillance) appear to be working on the case. To further baffle the viewer, some of the camera angles and the editing add to the confusion. Alan Rickman plays David Friedman, an alcoholic police detective who is unexpectedly assigned to the murder case The detective that supposedly would have been assigned (and who is now married to Friedman's ex-wife) has a broken leg. Emma Thompson plays Sadie Hawkins, the only FBI agent assigned to the kidnapping investigation. Mr. Rickman does a good job playing a man who's seen better days - and who didn't like what he saw. At least he was allowed to present his character in a straightforward way, and his character gets to solve the case. His police detective is a new character, different from any I've seen him play so far. However, as big Alan Rickman fan, i would say that this is a dissapointment but in saying this i will most likely continue to watch it as i believe that Alan's performance is worth the watch.
Customer Rating: Summary: Quirky & Cool Comment: I've been looking out for this thriller after seeing it on TV one night. It's probably just a three star film but it is elevated by a good script, efficient direction and the rather excellent Carla Gugino. The performances are all fine from a surprising ensemble cast (how did Alan Rickman and Emma Thompson get involved?) and it all moves along at a good pace. Nothing to re-write the genre but definately worth a look.
