Customer Rating: Summary: Russell Watson, 3rd album (Reprise) Comment: Reprise, released in November 2002, is Russell Watson's third album and probably represents a more confident and self assured release than his previous `The Voice' and `Encore', thanks to his increasingly successful concert touring and life in the limelight.
But it was also a worrying time during which he suffered a throat polyp, threatening to end his singing career, which was thankfully removed without causing long term problems to his voice.
The songs are a mix of classical, opera and popular, with a distinctly more dramatic feel to those opera choices, the best example being the version of `Granada' which takes on epic proportions with the orchestral score and an individual vocal interpretation which, while straying from the conventional, certainly works.
Notable also are Ave Maria (Schubert's version) and a lovely performance of `The Pearl Fishers' duet (oddly no mention of who the duet was with, I suspect both voices are Russell Watson's!)
Bohemian Rhapsody is a bold choice let down by lame electronic backing, which is a shame for it represents one of Russell's best recorded examples of his talent for singing rock music. Guns N' Roses guitarist Slash offered Watson the job of Velvet Revolver frontman, which he declined, but I'm sure he could handle `Sweet Child o' Mine'.
In fact, on the strength of this album's wide ranging style of music, he can probably make a good job of almost everything.
Customer Rating: Summary: new version of REPRISE Comment: I have already reviewed REPRISE but I just had to make comment on the new U.S. version. It is WONDERFUL . RUSSELL has co-wrote 4 NEW songs. They are IMMENSO SOGNO,TUTTO SEI PER ME, ALL OR NOTHING and DID YOU EVER. The "VOICE" is sensuous and intimate and every time I hear these songs I am in absolute BLISS. If it was on sale in the U.K. it would be flying off the shelves. If you get the chance buy it ,you will not regret it. The 4 new songs are worth the price of the CD. alone. THIS is RUSSELL at his very best..... Sandy.
Customer Rating: Summary: American Version Comment: I'm ordering the UK version, but wanted to let y'all know that even though there are differences in each 'version' of this album, Russell Watson still delivers everything one could ask for! As I write, I am listening to "Reprise", and am as always awed by the versatility of this man! I hope he continues to record the charming mix of popular and classical that he's done so well with. I cannot say enough about the wonderful music this latest offering holds...buy, listen, enjoy!
Customer Rating: Summary: a year later Comment: It is nearly a year since I bought "REPRISE" and I still listen to it at least 3 times a day. This is a C.D. that never gets boring. AVE MARIA,and POURQUOI ME REVEILLER still bring a tear to the eye,CORE N'GRATO makes me go weak at the knees. TORNA A SURRIENTO, GRANADA, THAT's AMORE are wonderful. In fact the whole C.D is WONDERFUL, just the same as "THE VOICE" and "ENCORE". "REPRISE" has gone from no. 25 in the classic charts back UP to no. 8 this week.(4 th OCT.) DOES this not prove how good the C.D is. SASHA.
Customer Rating: Summary: RUSSELL WATSON - THE BEST TENOR IN THE WORLD. Comment: This is so different from the first 2 CDs but just as good if not better. TORNA A SURRIENTO and GRANADA ,full of power and a smoochy version of THATs AMORE just to start with. Then comes the amazing PEARl FISHERS with RUSSELL singing both parts, which I found out by reading the CD leaflet, and what about the fantastic pictures of RUSSELL in the leaflet,he looks as good as he sounds. He proves he can sing difficult opera with LA DANZA and VESTI LA GIUBBA . BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY is fantastic but my favourites are POURQUOI ME REVEILLER which reduces me to tears and CORE N GRATO this is so heart wrenching,he puts so much feeling and emotion into it I just melt each time I hear it. Once again RUSSELL outclasses the other tenors with his VOICE ,style and choice of songs. SANDY.
