Customer Rating: Summary: Problems not Fixed Comment: The last / final patch for this game was v1.02. This did not address the above listed problems with joysticks. Why make a flight sim if you cannot use a joystick beats me. Keyboard flying is just not the same.
Don't waste your money. Get someting else instead.
Customer Rating: Summary: An Unbiased Review Comment: What a shame! This had the possiblity of being a reasonable game for WW2 Flight Sim maniacs, of which I am one, but what a disappointment. The graphics are not bad, but don't bother trying to play this game with a joystick, you will be wasting your time. At first I could not get it to function at all, and when I did, I could only fly with the keyboard, which I hate. As stated by other reviewers, the control mapping for the joystick is rubbish, and if you try to fly you will find that you cannot disassociate the rudder from the ailerons, even though they are seperately mapped, and any slight sideways twitch on the joystick will flip you into a roll.
I have had a request in to Ubisoft for technical help for two months, and they steadfastly refuse to even aknowledge my request. All in all, I find this very disappointing, and not up to the usual Ubisoft standard. My advice is don't waste your money on what is pure rubbish.
Customer Rating: Summary: Standard stuff but looks great and great sound Comment: Well, I heard the in cockpit view is not included which is a real shame. And I have found my Ubi-soft mouse (cordless) ultra-sensitive - do a slight move too far and I'm upside down! Having said that, when you get to Dunkirk (for instance) it's easy to get totally engrossed as giant well-rendered bombers roar past your ears as you do a sharp turn and drill their backs with flack. When the combat gets thick and planes are gunning and diving all around of you and you're feeling the G as you drag on your stuck to manoeuvre amongst the smoke and debris - it's not so bad. Basically, if you want realism, this is not your thing. If you want top arcade style play - this isn't it either - it just seems so, well, standard. But I found it in a shop for 12 pounds (about $19) and defending London with the sound up loud and hearing the enemy shouting comments about your ace flying - it's not so bad after all.
Customer Rating: Summary: Waste of time Comment: Blazing Angels is a game full of problems, if you can even get it to load! After many attempts I eventually got passed the protection key. Despite many repeated attempts to get help from the Ubisoft website (still waiting) downloading the patches I have finally admitted defeat and unistalled this game for good and binned it.Don't waste your money!
Customer Rating: Summary: Fun but it needs patches, seriously! Comment: First of all, this is a good game, but it needs a lot of improvement here and there.
Background: Looking for a WWII fighter game for a while back, but not very good at control the fighter, i.e. amateur sim player. But would like to enjoy some fun in dogfight. Tried with demo, using *keyboard*, at least I shot something down. So bought it and gave it a go.
Pros:
1. Relatively easy to get your hands on it, if you are green.
2. Stunning graphics and sounds effects, with the newest shader effects and very realistic accoustic impact sounds etc.
Cons:
1. Doesn't support joystick very well, or not at all at the moment. I have a logitec 3D extreme, but it doesn't support at all, all the key mappings are messed up.
2. Internet playing problem, dedicated server etc. But for me it is not a major issue atm.
Current Status from Ubi BA community:
1. They are trying to fix the joystick problems. Two patches are released, 1.01 and 1.02, though 1.01 doesn't fix my joystick major problem. 3D extreme stick is claimed fixed, but mapping is still a problem.
2. When I bought it, it didn't have a cockpit view, it seemed they have added it in later 1.02 patch.
All in all, I think it is still a good game, if you can bear with the basic keyboard playing the game instead of using your favourite joystick for a while, as from the community, there are still problems with some popular joysticks and with mapping. Please do check their forum to ensure yours is compatible with 1.02 if you are in a hurry.
For those who are not extreme sim dogfighting fan, I recommend to put it on hold for a while, and see what others say about the latest patches etc. to avoid disappointment on some aspects of it.
Having been playing keyboard with it for a while, now I still think it is one of those good WWII dogfighting games those dogfighting manic should have.
