Customer Rating: Summary: Exciting concept Comment: Really enjoyed jumping between various components of this game - strategy to actually dropping bombs.
Loved being able to take over failing units and then turning them around - could just target a plane and get into it. Loved the various missions - really liked Pearl Harbour from both sides of the conflict.
Enjoying playing the game, but looking forward to a patch to make the graphics even better.
Customer Rating: Summary: How many more times? Comment: I was seduced by the mini trailer for this game on the Amazon site, the reality however is much different. After years of buying computer games I should know by now that you should wait at least six months to allow the first patches to be produced.
I'm afraid I have shelved the item before establishing what gameplay might be lurking here. This decision was in part down to the visuals but equally it had something to do with the frequency the game crashed to the desktop and not always with an error message, helpful or otherwise.
Basically, on the UK version at least, the graphic effects are just plain missing. Trawling the forums there is a stream of complaints echoing this fact and debates on whether this results from a protection system installed with the game (Starforce?). While used elsewhere apparently, one claim is that the UK version did not ship with this system attached but there may be some rogue code existing from some previous incarnation of the game.
However once again the buying public has been asked to fork out folding money for a product which is only fit for purpose in its most general sense. Game developers and publishers yet again have taken the money upfront and proceeded to use us as beta testers. At some stage the buying public is going to say enough is enough and I'm more than a little upset I have contributed (again) to delaying the point where that may happen.
Rant over.
Customer Rating: Summary: Ambitous but a total failure !. Comment: When first released this game was full of promise and more. Fantastic battles fought in 3D environments all driven by your own strategy; buying, developing and moving forces on a strategic map. In other words a war game, RTS, and 3D simulator all in one. Sounds too good to be true and sadly it is. With all this packed in to one game there are bound to be critical failures and there are.
Firstly the UK release of this game was completely ruined by the UK publisher putting in protection software that corrupted the graphics. This was not helped by the fact that the only real support for the game was through the games own forum. Here the moderators seem to have an almost fanatical loyalty to the game to the point of suppressing any negative feedback.
The problems with UK version were finally fixed with a patch 2 months after release. However after extensive play the following issues remain to this day, 9 month later. There are still numerous bugs, light houses in the sky, things appearing in production queues that were not there, save games crashing or not working at all, a hopeless diplomacy model, random crashes to desktop, and a pathetic AI not only at the strategic level but also in the 3D RTS battles.
In short playing chess with a 5 year old is more challenging than this game. My advice is to avoid this at all costs. If you want 3D action in this era go for Pacific Fighters or perhaps Silent Hunter 4. If you like war games go to www.hpssims.com and get Pacific War or the Proud and the Few from the Squad Battles series. For the naval buffs try Uncommon Valour which is good value on Amazon or buy and download the similar but massive War in the Pacific from Matrix Games.
