Customer Rating: Summary: An Extraordinary Musical Offering Comment: This collection is a box of delights. From the spine-tingling antiquities of Byzantine chant to the modern edginess of Shostakovich, Janácek and Bartók, by way of the familiar and the less well-known, the set does nothing less than present the listener with a compelling and beautiful journey through more than seven centuries of Western music. Other reviewers have picked out individual highlights, so suffice to say here that performances and recordings are of a consistently high standard, while special mention must be made of the presentation box, complete with CD of libretti and words, and a stunning book interweaving notes on the music with the story of Harmonia Mundi. Buy it!

Customer Rating: Summary: Yes, the best deal in classical music history Comment: I already own several discs in this collection, but for the totally knock me down with a feather price I was more than happy to buy them again. I simply can't believe the price being asked for this collection. Harmonia Mundi is revered and awarded for its recordings of medieval, renaissance and baroque musics, in particular, so don't get the idea you're buying inferior recordings. There are 29 (!!!) cds in the set PLUS a cd-rom of (I believe) printable sheet musics and annotations. This is the best deal in recorded music history - buy this set and you will have a collection of important canonical works beautifully performed and recorded that will reward you for the rest of your life; it's that good. I still cannot believe the price...
