Summary: Half Life keeps rolling
Comment: I am currently waiting on episode 3 to come out, but i must say i am very impressed so far by this title! (annoncement expected sometime between now and the end of december 2008- episode 3).
1. the graphics are basic but are fantastic also.
2. a good weapon selection choice.
3. enemies that requires tactical thinking and the right firepower and teamwork from nearby friendlies.
4. their are gaps for room to breathe between each bit.
5. a good challenge for those who haven't adapted quickly enough to realize the weak spots.
6. a good navigation hazard every now and then.
hl2 starts off with gordon deposited by the g-man in a small town coming off a train in the station and notice right away a brutal guard with a shock stick once gordan leaves the train. later one gordon encounters the once throw away character, barney from black mesa and loyal friend as well as a robot that seems it's a dog and the young owner, Alyx Vance who's father is Eli, a scientist of black mesa also and then you got the bumbling scientist who has a headcrab for a pet!, Dr Kleiner and Lamarr.
throughout the episode you encounter the once used enemy of the Xen, Vautigaunts who are now outcasts who live on earth as friends, the Combine who have a Human collaborator who resides within a massive structure nearby brought in by the combine, the once friend of Gordon's, Dr Breen who has taken it upon himself to stop Gordon before his heroic status become legend, however it fails to all proportians when this whole town rises up to remove the combine from the planet and town, later on gordon witnesses the power of the combine with massive crushing machines to a huge 4 legged monster to their basic masked soliders.
however breen realizes his goal has become nullified when his plan is shot to pieces when a double traitor Judith Mossman turns on Breen and breen tries to head offworld while also planting an order to destroy the area via a massive explosion from a dark matter teleportation source which is the real reason for the structure, however after it's destruction g-man takes gordon back to cryo however is reawoken when g-man was about to tell gordon but the vautigaunts intercept and instead gordon is found by dog under a pile of rubble right beside the massive combine structure for which alyx is asked by her father to find out why the combine struture is still active, and soon realize they have to leave and fast!, the two take a trip through the ruined city where the combine still roam freely, after a few near death experiences gordon finds barney pinned down by snipers for which gordon snuffs them out, however the people are not as dead as the combine had hoped and send out a small ambush force, right at the end gordon is confronted with a problem before he can board the train out of town, a huge problem. once gordan and alyx board the train and leave however are too late and seea huge shock wave heading their way along with several flying objects, gordan is knocked unconcious.
in ep2 gordon wakes up in the middle of nowhere and a wrecked train after gathering his senses, gordon climbs through tunnels and a few puzzles and is ambushed later on by a three legged combine droid who attacks gordon successfully, later on gordon encounters alyx at a wrecked depot and bridge and a vehicle on the otherside however is made difficult by a toxic river and several combine hiding there.
once that had been resolved alyx and gordan traveled to a nearby base to signal for help but find out it has been attacked shortly after gordon and alyx reach a train depot and come under attack which is not ended as several resistant members are pinned down by combine forces elsewhere. soon enough gordan and alyx ecounter a huge problem before their rocket can be lauched to stop the combine, the combine have launched a big attack on that complex and 5 huge 4 legged robots along with many 3 legger robots are all eventually destroyed however after a small set back and the rockets launch Eli makes a comment about Alyx that Eli would be proud to have Gordon as a son in law, and is shortly killed by a combine sleeper agent.
A highly entertaining game worth playing for that reason.

Summary: half as good
Comment: Let's be clear , this looks great . Episode 1 is a bit short but I finished it although I found it more difficult than half life 2 . More suitable to somebody with rapid reactions rather than brains .
Episode 2 is even worse requiring very little thought but much quicker reactions . I found parts of it completely impossible due to the speed and power of the aliens .I can't comment on the whole game as I've failed to complete it because of this .I'm just glad I waited for this issue which was quite good value . Fantastic look and feel but too little thought required.
Definitely inferior to Half life 2 unless you like action more than puzzles.
